Yuquan Temple in Yichang

Yuquan Temple is located on east of the Yuquan Mountain 15 kilometers west of the Dangyang City. Yuquan Temple is one of the earliest Buddhism temples in China. In Han Dynasty, Pujing master built house there and named “Pujing /hut”. In Sui Dynasty, Zhikai master gave lectures there and named it “Yuquan Temple”. The Yuquan Temple together with the “Qixia” “Lingyan” and “Tiantai” is called “four unique spots” in the forest.

In Northern Song Dynasty, the Yuquan Temple had 9 builds, 18 palaces and 3700 monk rooms. It was called the crown in the forest. Now there are Hall of Heavenly King, main hall, Bilu Palace, East Hall, West Hall and depositary of Buddhist Sutra and so on. The main hall is 21 meters high. The 72 columns have Yuan Dynasty characters. There are 1.5 tons weight Sui Dynasty iron braiser, Yuan Dynasty iron kettle and iron bell. In front of the palace, there are stone Guanyin Statues. It is said that the statue was made by Wu Daozi. On the earth mound in front of the temple, there tooth relic of the Buddha pagoda built in Northern Song Dynasty. In the temple, the pines and cypresses are verdant. On the foot of the Yuquan Mountain, there is famous spring named “Pearl Spring”.

In Yuquan Temple, there are many precious plants. The most famous one is the cherry bay on back of the palace. It blossoms every month even in winter. In the pool, there are lotuses, Every June, they blossom and last three months.

Yuquansi Nationa Forest Park is located in perfect location. It connects Yichang Three Gorges in west, adjacent to Jingzhou Ancient City in east and links the Xiangfan Longzhong in north.
